The last 24 hours have been pretty amazing. I celebrated my 38th birthday and the microphone I ordered from Amazon arrived today! Both events – the microphone being the less exciting – mark milestones for me. Turning 38 means I’m closer to 40 and the microphone means that I am serious about starting a podcast. I mean – why the hell else would I buy a pink microphone?

Anyway – once I finished my final paper for school, I recorded the trailer for my podcast and it came out great! I wrote it in the middle of the night and did a few edits to get it right. The crazy thing is that recording this trailer immediately took me back to my DJ days on the student-run KDPS 88.1 FM Radio Station. I had a dream back then to be a journalist – be someone who’s words could get back to people. It My words (verbal or text) would be ones that would inform and inspire people. There are so many reasons why I didn’t take that route and sometimes I regret it. But the life experiences I have gained since my reign at KDPS are why I am who I am today.
And as already discussed in a previous post – I’m ready to share my story and the story of other Black women from Iowa. The microphone, blog and podcast are the next step in my journey. And having it all coincide with my 38th birthday makes this the perfect situation.
Now – I need to get to work on my first episode, future episodes and interviews and an actual launch date timeline.
Guess I better get to work – this story isn’t going to tell itself!
